Transforming the secret garden...

secret
not because it's space was unknown
but secret
because
it was unknown it could be
anything other than CHAOS
this was the garden at the end of LAST summer
after TONS of work
do you see that mass chaos behind Princess?
yes.. well…
it's STILL a work in progress but...

and do you see this demanding area RIGHT next to the house?
well
it's weeds AND plants
and we would see field mice run in
and out
so NOT ok with that…
so it was on the MUST tend to list

some of my LOVELY HELPERS!
Mrs. California and Princess worked SO hard to help me!
(seriously..
you don't actually think I do any of these
amazing transformations solo do you?)

TA DAH!

way way better right?
it's not complete yet..
we want to put some large decorative planters there..
but
it's got that garden liner stuff
and it is pretty DEEP with those rocks
Thanks to CS for transplanting all the plants
weed wacking all the weeds
and for brining in all those HEAVY bags of slate!

the hose…
yes.. it's always everywhere..
we have a plan..
just give me time..
it' too shall get taken care of..
THANK YOU PINTEREST

here is the garden as we got it

The walk now?
I know it's not done..
but I would say..
MUCH improved!
wouldn't you agree?
The garden
when we first got it.
from another angle...

Things are really shaping up..
we are slowly taking out the scary jagged rocks
that don't create ANY sort of walk way AT ALL in my garden
but DO cause me to fall
trip
bruise myself
twist my ankle
bleed profusely
and otherwise injure self
or wannabe helpers..
more transformation photos to come!

globe purple...

no real words

just loving the purple

blooming about

sometimes I like to just
STEAL away
and grab my camera
and see what I might find..
really?
I love the twirl on the inside of this bloom..
I love the light shimmering through it
all bundled up
and preparing
for??
falling gracefully open
really? could this be more lovely?
almost every shade of purple present..
LOVE this
what slender grace
queen anne
what is the HINT of red in you?
perfect buds
boldly opened
oh MY!

Shades of White

we aren't all pinks and purples in
the Blessings Farm Garden..
no, we have lots of whites
they are delicate
and fanciful
and I keep falling in love
with the many shades of White
white symbolizes purity
holiness
innocence
isn't this bridal bouquet beautiful...
it is just bursting...
with all the promise of what WHITE is
and what it can be
the rose
unveiling herself..
Pinch me..
I live amongst THIS!

Princess is the first to enjoy the blue flames..

WE have hummingbirds...
and a feeder
but no nectar..
so
Princess thought the very first time we use the stove
should be to serve others
rather than ourselves
gathering her supplies
measuring out her sugar..
it occurs to her she is uncertain about her ratio's
running to the Amish neighbor to verify
produced nothing
as they weren't home...
I reminded her that we have a cool book!
and she began her hunt for the recipe!
ta Dah!
see the pretty blue flame of a REAL stove?
wow...
she's mixing her ingredients
and she's all ready to load
once the nectar has cooled..
we will have happy hummingbirds in NO time!
do you want the recipe too?
one part sugar
to
four parts water
heat till dissolved
and let cool..
keep your feeder clean
your nectar can store in the fridge about a week..
keep it filled
for happy humming friends

A wee garden project

The very first assignment I had was for the gang
to go to far end of the property
where the richest blackest soil we have lives...
and get me some..
This is it, and boy did they all have fun getting it...
next I need them to load up some of my brick
that brick we found hiding in the grass..
then Princess got to work
We had a little problem area
where the water rushes through
and we loose soil..
we also have chives here
and there
and well.
it would be nice if they were all in about the same place
see.. aren't they pretty?
we will transplant all those not in this zone,
and bring them together..
but only after Princess lays the brick around to be just
a wee bit of a border..
she did it on her own
and then she added that dirt
it sure looks good to me..
soon we should have chives galore!
and the soil should mostly stay put..
I confess
I actually LOVE the look of the brick there..
I wonder if we ought not continue with it beyond this section..
either way
BRILLIANT work Princess!

umm honey.. let me show you

yah..
so he's not actually even unpacked at this point
and the Blessings are over by the General
admiring it
debating about whether or not to put a star on the front of it..
and I can't WAIT another minute
I show Machine Man the gardens
especially the section he wanted to rip out,
because it was so tangled and super scary
and looked just like
ummm
a junk heap
I showed him that the scary bush he got scratched by
was really a rose bush
after looking
and smelling
they have made friends..
smiling!
and then...
I showed him the "other" tank that arrived!
Our PROPANE!
It came when Mrs. J and the kids were here
and we were knee deep in something or other
and because there wasn't much I could do about it
I promptly put it in the
excited about
category of my brain
and never got a photo of it till now!
he was just as thrilled as I,
and went to get all this
(no he hadn't even unpacked the van of his belongings yet...
it was THAT sort of excitement!)
all set and ready to go!
oh my!
it's really coming together!
so far so good!
What do you think?
next
gotta get the fridge in..
gotta do
SOMETHING
about the very scary pantry
then my shelves
and caulking
and art!
oh so excited!
are you?
