A wee garden project

The very first assignment I had was for the gang
to go to far end of the property
where the richest blackest soil we have lives...
and get me some..
This is it, and boy did they all have fun getting it...
next I need them to load up some of my brick
that brick we found hiding in the grass..
then Princess got to work
We had a little problem area
where the water rushes through
and we loose soil..
we also have chives here
and there
and well.
it would be nice if they were all in about the same place
see.. aren't they pretty?
we will transplant all those not in this zone,
and bring them together..
but only after Princess lays the brick around to be just
a wee bit of a border..
she did it on her own
and then she added that dirt
it sure looks good to me..
soon we should have chives galore!
and the soil should mostly stay put..
I confess
I actually LOVE the look of the brick there..
I wonder if we ought not continue with it beyond this section..
either way
BRILLIANT work Princess!

our secret garden... secret because it's forgotton

so the daughter told us when it was sold...
that the property USED TO BE on the garden tours...
REALLY
that scraggly old heap of a mess??
Princess and I looked at one another with eyes knowing..
no doubt in our eyes at all
we'd seen the leaves...
we KNEW there were hidden treasures beneath the chaos...
but COULD they be reclaimed?
Machine Man held out NO hope
C.S. only doubt an disbelief...
Buddy only apathy and delight in berries
the season for work...has come upon us
and work there is a plenty
from what neighbors speculate...
the fancy garden may have been forgotten for at LEAST 2-3 years...
that is a LOT of clearing we need to do...
let me tell ya!
but beneath it,
as we gently pull away
we find treasure after treasure!
it's just that there is such a VOLUME of clearing that needs doing
and it needs to be done ...
gently

pretty
by my back door

here is one view..
can you grasp the enormity?
oh MY!

on section cleared away
lots of rocks..
it is layered to make the garden steeped..
rather smart considering the incline it is on...

should look beautiful as things fill in!
there are even strawberry plants as underbrush!
blackberries
raspberries
black raspberries
oh MY!
another section cleared..
well almost..
looks pretty good ...
so exciting!

what do you think?
so much more to do...
think I need to take a break and get on with the painting
of the floors
in the
Littlest Room
don't YOU???

snowball bushes..

so in front of our sweet little Farm House
are these Snowball bushes
and not just one or two
like ooodles
and ooodles
like they had babies
there are literally
generations of them

and they are TALL
and beautiful
but
thick
and OUT of control
and buggy in the summer
and Machine Man wants to KILL them all
(hunter instinct)
and Opa thinks they retain too much water too near the house to be logical
and I LOVE them
and want to save them
and Princess
well
agrees with ME :)
LOVE her!
so WE devised a plan

and every single time we have attempted the plan
it has..
failed..
because their stems are SO many
and SO thick
and we are ...
it would seem...
VERY wimpy chicks

see how TALL they are?
see those stubs in front?
those are DAYS worth of work!
and you can BARELY NOTICE!
ugh

it's like a bad hair cut

so i brought up my hedge cutters
lame...
and Opa brought up HIS ELECTRIC hedge trimmers
(still IN the box... because he IS ... THAT cool)
let's see what does the job

neither
we had to go to a chain saw
those suckers are like wood!
we ended up with a HUGE burn pile!
looks great  right!

the plan is...
(you're just really eager to know right?)
that with them more...
manageable, shall we say...
we can now DIG them up in the early spring,
and transplant them
along my side of the park way...
see on the left of the drive way, how it dips a bit, and there is a white birch, that is sort of...
the road way..
and I think these would look beautiful,
dotting all along my yard as people drive by...
my home is high up enough it won't hinder my seeing the street or the neighbors,
but sure will make the drive beautiful
and my view...
my neighbors LOVED the idea too
who knows..
perhaps they'll help..
goodness knows
we'll NEED IT!
(giggling)
