nature walk...

Love LOVE love God's glorious creation.
Love walking in it,
and sharing it with people I love...
and so excited to participate even MORE in caring FOR it
preserving it.. protecting it..
There is JUST so much to learn :)

Little man needs his daily hike when we are at Blessings Farm..
Mama sure could use some walking..
not to mention Buddy's NEED to burn energy
and Princess' need for space, air, and peace
all that added up
SURE does not hurt to see this as a super time to get in some
 Nature Class in !
I always try to remember to bring my camera..
because SOMETIMES
We come across something that we aren't certain about
that we .. don't have a name for..
wondering.. What this is..
if YOU know.. please share :)

sometimes color and texture are simply beautiful
and must be captured..
like Little Man's mossy rock

Sometimes...
it is my fellow hikers that I want to capture..
they GROW so quickly..
and "THIS is the Day the Lord hath made let us rejoice and be glad in it" comes to mind..
the very fact.. that today..
will NEVER come again..
taking a photo.. is like keeping a moment o of that precious time
here is another beautiful deep dark brown red "something" ...
and I see it everywhere..
but don't KNOW for certain WHAT it is..
Things to learn this week!

isn't this a lovely berry..
wondering WHAT berry it is..
is it poisonous
or
not so much..
inquiring minds WANT to know !

Do you do nature hikes?
Nature Journals?
here are a couple of the books WE just LOVE
and try to include in our home "schooling"
every week,
if not .. every day

The big kids are reading through this,
and researching through this book
as part of their weekly lessons..
I do this topically with our 1st Grader Buddy!
HAVE you bought this book yet?
more importantly..have you READ this book yet?
utterly brilliant
I LOVE IT!

and THIS is one.. on my MUST buy list!
perhaps a Christmas Gift..hmm just thinking :)
We have oodles of wonderful DK and Golden field guides
as well as Audubon field guides to learn our birds
we actually adore ANY field guide

Which is YOUR favorite??
and DO you know what our mystery photo's are???
comment soon!

Bunk Room Fun... part 1

Technically.. we have this HUGE Master Bedroom...
but we don't THINK that way...
we think it would make a MUCH better..
BUNK Room!

 we have 4 blessings
and oooooodles of nieces and nephews
and lots of friends
and
well...
we like them all..
and think it would be FUN fun FUN to have them come and play at the farm with us...
and where ELSE to have them make memories
and sleep
and
and and...
 Check out this room...
 it is HUGE
and airy
and wonderful
we already ripped out the carpeting...
and now have to pull out all those icky bad staple things..
ONCE the staples are all out, I will be lightly sanding the wood planked floor (YES!)
then...
priming and painting..
I am strongly leaning towards porch paint WHITE floors...
but who knows...
anything could happen in my mind between NOW and the time I get
WE get ..
all those nasty staples OUT of all that floor...
the door on your left is to a really LARGE walk in closet :)
LOVE IT
can't you just see all the darlings in their bunks, snug as a bug
:) I can..

here are the ones we are scoping out at Ikea...
there are ideas coming out of me like sparks on a sparkler the 4th of July...
so exciting...
things to save for!

Just a stroll...

Little Man is our youngest child, he is cute as a button, and tough as nails..
He also has some struggles he's had to overcome..
and IS overcoming..
a year of physical therapy and he has come a LONG way...
He loves being on the farm, because on Blessings Farm he can really PLAY hard
and we like to work him hard too

I tried to take the children walking every day we were on the Farm
for Nature Study
and just plain old good EXERCISE

 Not only is it LOVELY
it's a good "stretch of the legs"
I love the views I have.. and wanted to share some with you...
every cloud has a silver lining... isn't it glorious?
Praise the LORD!
I love His glorious gifts...
Here's Little Man and Princess KI
He wanted to show me the cool rock he found.. it has soft green moss growing on it
and he LOVES this rock

Buddy came looking for us on a walk.. here are the sweet brothers
apparently Little Man got a phone call..
how come MY reception isn't THAT great up here..
wonder what plan HE is using :)
Love the walks...
Love the Blessings who walk along side of me..
LOVE the One who IS love.
Thank you Jesus

Tag Along....

We splurged.. with all the "stuff" we have to bring up to the farm,
all the crazy things Farm Life needs
we splurged...
and went to Farm and Fleet!
after much shopping about, we chose Farm and Fleets trailer

They had the BEST price for exactly what we wanted...
LOOK at them.. attaching our trailer to the Family Van...
THEY named it...
Tag Along
Do you name things too????

We name EVERYTHING...
Little Scout does a VERY good job pulling Tag Along...
and so far..
everyone LOVES the addition to the family..
Welcome Tag Along :)

DIY Dodge Ram???

Every Farm needs a few things... right?
Like a real cool Pick up truck...
and this one..
is cool..
and old..
and DIRT cheap.

 which is FABULOUS because
we are broke
and Machine Man is QUITE the car guy...
he hasn't had a good Pick Up truck since we were first married!
and this one..
at a WHOPPING $400
needs a bit of work...
thankfully nothing a DIY car guy can't handle :)
pic's of it ON the farm to come as soon as it can drive THAT far :)

Kitchen Remodeling Part 1

Here are some pictures of the Kitchen BEFORE we began the remodeling
not too bad of space, but the ... everything is about to GO
here is a sneak peek at the dining room/breakfast area..
THAT is the front door..
YES the walls are Yellow Striped... Vertical Stripes matte / gloss yellow...
YES those are very UGLY par cay floors..
there are plans in the works for those...
 YES that is PURPLE
this time striped horizontally
matte/gloss/matte/gloss
oh MY that'll need some primer

Machine Man has begun the demo!
OUT cabinets, OUT you go!
more ick
 and still more ick
and OH NO!  mice WERE living under my cabinets..
JUST as I had feared..
those are HOLE into the crawl space, which has a "door" that is icky letting MICE dwell in my house.. with me..
eeeeeeeeeeek
 here is the "makeshift" kitchen...
no sink, for washing dishes, we are using the bathroom sink..
no stove but a cook stove my dad brought,
YES that is a microwave/convection thing my Dad brought up,
we have also
a crock pot, hot plate, electric skillet, vitamix, and the most essential
my NEW Ikea refrigerator!
LOVE this..
I blocked the whole thing off with the baby corral.. which you can not see in the photo..
BUT it saves me some sanity,
even if I have to climb over it constantly..
We spent 10 days working on the remodel
much of which Machine Man had to be back in Suburbia for..
he has this job...
and they really like him to BE THERE, so he can earn that pay check
to help pay for ALLL this
Here is a shot of C.S. helping me tile :)
C.S. is 15, and just ABOUT the neatest lad I have EVER known!
What an incredible blessing he is!
Starting to shape up.. don't you think?
those are Menards Subway tile, on sale for $0.19 each..
we got EVERYTHING for the tile job at Menards, and were thrilled with the help that they were in figuring out everything we needed..
THIS is my first tile job..
C.S. and I laid some plywood over all those holes, or we'd have fallen through....
Machine Man, aka Papa, would come in a few days and FIX the floor...
till then, it's wabbly walking and mouse traps laid out at night
we were able to pry the sill away from the window, JUST enough to get these under, ~phew
trying to slice off JUST that little bit was impossible
as we DON'T have a nice wet saw,
but that other kind... that you score, and snap..
well.. a LOT of tile was "snapped" incorrectly trying to figure out this..
and we stopped,
prayed,
had a snack break
and THIS came to us.
looks good too!
with NO internet on the farm, I couldn't just google what to do about these
so..
after prayer and a nap, I got the great idea to frame out the tile..
it turned out ok, EVEN if it wasn't what I was supposed to do...
oh well

 what do you think?
I think it's looking good
I LOVE the way this looks.. just NOT sure if we want all those switches there...
Machine man is deciding if he wants to knock those through the other side of the wall.. till then..
a hole not tiled in
 freshly painted!
I have something special planned for that yellow wall.. something different :)
but for now.. someone is HUNGRY
and I must go :)

falling in love and dreaming....

Twenty years ago, a young man FINALLY had the courage to ask a young lady on a date... He had been hesitating for some time, and was feeling brave... It was on that date that true love was found... Three years later they were married, three years of dreaming of a future together ... of sharing hopes, ideas, imaginings... And reality hit...

The dream.. a life OUT of the 'burbs, and in the country... We longed to be on the land, to have some real acreage... But he with a career that required metropolis, left them stagnant in "SUBURBIA"... Year after year brought more challenges to obtaining the dream, child after child came into their lives, joy, bliss, adventure, travel, health challenges ALL galore!  17 years after they said I do..after YEARS and years of hunting, researching, reading, driving to states far away to seek, and hope to find...  the "land" was finally, and divinely FOUND!  Yes  FOUND!

it was YET another trip to hunt and seek out areas.. This time we chose to search Southwest Wisconsin, it had the same feel in many ways that Kentucky and Tennessee had for us, but seemed more attainable... All these regions brought back memories of out time in Munich, and in the South of France... we LOVED how eco friendly this area is, were excited to learn of all the sustainable farms in the area, and couldn't wait to find a community that we liked....

Trouble was, we found SO many little communities we liked.. And so, we met with many realtors from different area's and focused on acreage, and finding a "do-able" fixer upper.. In this economy the prices were right, but the homes... perhaps many of them.. JUST needed to be demolished.. it was a little discouraging.. and when leaving YET another realtors office, agreeing to meet the next day, he stopped us, and handed two listings to us.. said, hey, if you have time today, drive by these and see if you want to even look at them tomorrow... not worth it for any of us to be driving THAT far if they don't even pass a drive by... and we had daylight, he had another appointment, so we grabbed a snack and with kids in toe we drove past the properties... the first one was nice 20 or so acres, simple, clean, boring, flat, no view, no nothing.. but it WAS clean, move in ready... Machine Man was excited ... the kids and I ... were not... There was nothing WRONG with it .. it just wasn't... the DREAM..

The dream we have all had now since THE BEGINNING.. the Genesis of US... It had always been their dream too.. it was BEYOND painful to go to property after property and think... we will NEVER find "IT"... and see their hopes nearly as dashed as my own.. So with  great HOPE, because of the small, fuzzy picture, we drove with anticipation to the next property... THIS was "IT".. the blessings and I just KNEW as we drove up that drive.. we knew it was abandoned, and so... took great liberties in walking about, and sneaking peeks through the windows.. OH MY!!!!!!!! we were just jumping out of our skins with enthusiasm.. the property was BEAUTIFUL!!!! it needed lots of work.. but we could barely fall asleep that night with hopes for the next day..
Stiffled hopes.. hopes you try to NOT let get hold of you for fear of them being DASHED to pieces.. Hope so big you try not to breath...
The next day it was.. JUST as fabulous, even BETTER than we thought.. LOTS of work needed to be done.. but we really really loved it.. We scheduled a second showing, in which we requested a walk of the property.. This seemed to take the Realtor by surprise.. apparently not many folks request this sort of thing.. but WE had been doing this for YEARS, and weren't going to buy just a house.. nope.  We were hoping to buy 36 acres.. and we wanted to SEE more OF it. :)

it was a HOT day in July.. can we say MOSQUITO?  ok and we are dressed like FREAKS because of our concern over tics.. (5 of the 6 of us has Lyme Disease...and are in treatment) We smell of bug spray and sweat as we hike this property, and we are SO excited about every inch of it!

Bid put in, a little back and forth with the owners, and a LOT of prayer.. Prayer like.. Lord, if this is NOT the property for us, take away any desire or enthusiasm for it, and shut any opportunity for us to purchase it..
Deal went through.. easy as can be..
Easy but full of anxiety, inspectors of all sorts, but it went through... passing all inspections..
on August 31, 2011
we became the PROUD owners of Blessings Farm !
