That wall... part 4 The changing of texture

It is snowing outside...
and as much as I just want to stay out of doors..
lunch needs to be made
and
I need to work on
THAT wall
with C.S.
but while waiting for him to set up the saw
and
nail gun
I can't help but step onto the front porch
to snap one photo of the beautiful view
now we've taught our 15 year old lad the safety techniques to using most of our power tools
but I prefer to supervise my
"apprentice"
in all such projects that require "POWER" tools
here he is cutting some of those sanded pallets
I rather like the look of the nails in the ends of the boards
so as long as they aren't split REAL badly
I prefer to leave them in

measuring and cutting make this feel like we are creating our own jigsaw puzzle
out of recycled
or up-cycled pallet boards!
It is SO fun!
we make sure to level each row

C.S. is getting very handy with the nail gun

I like that he is taking time to notice details...
like edges that fray
will give splinters later,
details matter so much
and teaching THAT to our kids is one thing
but seeing them GET it,
and OWN it
and NOT need me to nag them to notice
is like a HUG from the Lord :)
fantastic!
and then the reminder that..
he's fallible
as I look at the wall.
because THAT is all the boards they cut
sanded and prepared for me..
oh..
silly boyz
(giggling)
nice beginning
now to finish and PAINT it all!
so far.. so good

THAT wall... part 3 The changing of colors

yep..
it's THAT wall again...
progress
at a snails pace
(giggles)
the look when we bought it
after we took everything out
it really is messy
it really IS
well
lets be HONEST
it's YELLOW!
and seeing as I am doing planking
but not fancy, FITTED planking
but
rather
recycling pallet boards
there might be..
well...
GAPS
and it occurred to me that I don't want to put the planks
ON a YELLOW wall
because I will have to forever SEE the yellow, glistening through the pallets
and it will look
NASTY
so some Kilz
(just in case)
and a roller
and WALL-A
looking better?
I think so.

THAT wall.. part 2

WE began work on THAT wall.. you remember right?
it started out like THIS
and from THERE we progressed to THIS
then I shared with you my groovy ideas
and so.. the work begins!
all part of the BIG kitchen remodel..
but it's own thing none the less
because
well
Machine Man sees this as a fun UN-necessary
not really a PART of the big JOB
SO for this I have recruited C.S.
who is eager to work with me
and has a slight flair for anything of an architectural nature.
anything that adds dimension
and interest
hence I am disguising this "design" element
as perhaps..
more than it is..
what IS it?
something to please me!
to make the room more ..
US
a little country
a little city
smiles!

so the lad laid out all the boards..
yep..
I presumed..
(error on my part)
that with all the STACKS of pallets we've collected
they actually DID tear them apart for me
because
THEY said it was all done and ready..
(they = C.S. & Machine Man)
so..
I just NATURALLY figured
they were tracking with me on the project as well as YOU are
(giggling.. how COULD I be so SILLY????)
this was ALL the boards they did.
yep
that's it..
did they not read the post..
were they not harassed by me with COUNTLESS
(yes i know.. you life of Fred folks.. i stand corrected.. countable)
Pinterest pictures of what I was envisioning...???
it is clear
they did NOT even pay ANY attention to me
(and THIS is a surprise to me.. WHY?)
giggling
ANY ways..

still ignorant, we got our Sandblaster thing

it is old
I don't even know where we got it from..
but it is a Craftsman

I reviewed with C.S. HOW to do the sanding..
and

in a VERY chilly garage
he had at it

seeing as he has a bit of asthma
and wishes to someday live someplace like..
Alaska..
he chose to open the door..
yep..
that's my boy!

and then.. the very PROUD lad
showed me his boards..
well..
(me)THEY are wonderful
but.. is THAT all there is?
(C.S.) yeah.. why did you need more?
(me) shake my head..
yes dear ..
this will not cover the area...
let's go do some algebra with FRED!
and then work on communication skills
aka
LISTENING TO the LADY of the house :)
