Tis the season...snowball bushes..

one of my first enchanting views of the house...
well...
sort of see the house
What we actually see in this picture
is a sweet farm house peeking behind some
HUGE Snowball bushes!!
as if it were playing hide and go seek with us
after much discussion.
sometimes HEATED discussions...
or rather LIVELY discussions
about how much I LOVED the bushes
and how much Machine Man Hated them..
what finally came out was that we were in actually
in complete agreement
we BOTH hated to see these bushes we LOVED
(ok perhaps love is to strong a word for Machine Man's feelings)
directly in front of the house...
then more discussion on WHERE they should go...

it was decided...
per my suggestion that they OUGHT to go all the way down the lane!

and so ..
SPRING IS HERE!
and
'Tis the season...
and all that

digging trenches has BEGUN!
as Machine Man encouraged C.S.
"Son.. years from now when I am old and grey ...
you can tell your children, how you planted these bushes when you were a lad...
it will be grand"
and it WILL
it really really will

First sledding of the season!

Let it snow, Let it snow, LET IT SNOW!
yep..
they are AT it again!
Crazy kids think the Blessings Farm drive is THE best ramp
EVER
Buddy is waiting for HIS turn
and C.S. is the great PUSH
behind Princess and Little Man
hold on tight
(hoping he doesn't freak out)

whooosh

I can't believe they made that bend
GOOD JOB steering Princess!

VICTORY

now grab that sled, and let us do it all again!

Day dreaming....

It's December, and it is COLD outside
and I have blankets on,
and am wearing sweaters
and slippers
and when I go outside I find myself donning scarfs, hats, mittens and a very warm coat
but I am dreaming today
of warmer days to come
of ripe things
of berries
and blossoms...
and the farm in spring and summer..
I can NOT help but day dream at lunch time..
it's something I have done since my girl hood...
now I can do it and BLOG it out for you

yah.. seriously

you know this will make some excellent day's treat
and maybe we can collect JUST enough to can some jam...
maybe

blissfully beautiful

there they are
those snow ball bushes
we will be moving them this spring to their NEW home :)
so exciting!
They are SO lovely!

Yummy apple tree!
I plan on planting MORE trees on the farm THIS spring..
perhaps Jonagold
some honey crisp
hmmm

I adore, simply ADORE hollyhocks,
and am THRILLED they live here at the farm
and I get to live here with them

oooooooo MY

psst... hiding
and simply thankful to have been found

really showing off is this phlox
isn't it a star!

tiger lilly
I love her
I don't think she's common AT all...
striking, and easy to get on with

another show stopper...
Bright
cheerful
so glad to have this friend in our new garden!

oh MY
what a lovely little drama queen...
so nice to meet you

YES!
I love it here,
even though
it's cold today
and shall be covered all in a blanket of white for months to come...
I know THIS is preparing to bound up from beneath
and display it's beauty for me to enjoy once again
in spring
and in summer
SO exciting

the depth
the color
the range of just...
green
i SO enjoy it

purple in a garden
means happy for me
oh well..
grey skies won't last all year long..
blue skies
sunshine
warmth
WILL
return
and we will be ALL the more thrilled for it...
snuggling up with my blessings
and off to read a great book.
Today's book you wonder?
"Five Children and It" by Edith Nesbit
That is my read aloud for Today
then
errands GALORE
Christmas is near DON'T you know?

snowball bushes..

so in front of our sweet little Farm House
are these Snowball bushes
and not just one or two
like ooodles
and ooodles
like they had babies
there are literally
generations of them

and they are TALL
and beautiful
but
thick
and OUT of control
and buggy in the summer
and Machine Man wants to KILL them all
(hunter instinct)
and Opa thinks they retain too much water too near the house to be logical
and I LOVE them
and want to save them
and Princess
well
agrees with ME :)
LOVE her!
so WE devised a plan

and every single time we have attempted the plan
it has..
failed..
because their stems are SO many
and SO thick
and we are ...
it would seem...
VERY wimpy chicks

see how TALL they are?
see those stubs in front?
those are DAYS worth of work!
and you can BARELY NOTICE!
ugh

it's like a bad hair cut

so i brought up my hedge cutters
lame...
and Opa brought up HIS ELECTRIC hedge trimmers
(still IN the box... because he IS ... THAT cool)
let's see what does the job

neither
we had to go to a chain saw
those suckers are like wood!
we ended up with a HUGE burn pile!
looks great  right!

the plan is...
(you're just really eager to know right?)
that with them more...
manageable, shall we say...
we can now DIG them up in the early spring,
and transplant them
along my side of the park way...
see on the left of the drive way, how it dips a bit, and there is a white birch, that is sort of...
the road way..
and I think these would look beautiful,
dotting all along my yard as people drive by...
my home is high up enough it won't hinder my seeing the street or the neighbors,
but sure will make the drive beautiful
and my view...
my neighbors LOVED the idea too
who knows..
perhaps they'll help..
goodness knows
we'll NEED IT!
(giggling)
